It is possible to exchange the contents of your wallet for foreign currency at the Travelex outlet on the ground floor, near the domestic baggage carousels. Here you can buy and sell a huge number of currencies and purchase phone cards and cash passports- it is open for all international arrivals and departures. There are also foreign currency ATMs in both the international and domestic departures lounges.
Lost and Found
Lost track of something? Any items lost in an airplane can be tracked down by calling the airline directly. Items misplaced within the terminal, if they have been found or handed in, can be retrieved at the Terminal Control Centre which is on the ground floor next to Gate 6.
There are wireless internet hotspots available throughout the terminal.
Very close to the airport is the Marrara Sporting Complex where a lot of regional games take place. Also nearby in the suburb of Marrara is the North Lakes Shopping Centre, perfect for some retail therapy before or after a flight.
There are a number of beaches not too far from Darwin Airport, including Casuarina Beach and Mindil Beach. For a bit of nature and sea air, East Point Reserve is a popular oceanside recreation area covering 200 hectares. Lake Alexander offers year-round swimming, and there are a range of barbecue and picnic facilities making it the perfect spot to soak in the outdoors before getting on a flight.
The terminal is a smoke-free area, but there is a purpose-built smoking area directly in front of the terminal between the Arrivals and Departures areas.
A shower is what travelers’ dreams are made of! Darwin Airport provides showers free of charge, and these can be found on the first floor of the terminal. Soap, towels and the like are not provided.
To ensure a safe and secure environment for all airport users, please keep in mind a few procedures and security policies which are in place at Darwin Airport.
There is CCTV monitoring in all areas of the terminal building in an effort to reduce crime and increase passenger safety. Although you may carry cameras within the terminal, taping or taking pictures of airport staff, screening equipment and processes is forbidden. Both unattended baggage and jokes or comments made about explosives or weapons are considered security threats and may result in being disallowed to fly, so keep a hold on your luggage and your conversation while in the terminal!
You will be required to pass through security before boarding a flight, which involves an x-ray scan of your hand luggage and a metal detector which you must walk through. These are designed to check for any weapons or potential weapons. International passengers will also be subject to restrictions on liquids, aerosols and gels. These must be in containers of 100 millilitres or less, and collectively carried in one transparent, resealable bag approximately 20 centimetres by 20 centimetres. If you foresee any issues with the screening process, please advise and discuss with the staff.
